Believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. Climb 575 steps for panoramic views of the Tungabhadra River and surrounding boulder landscape. A popular sunrise trek.
Hampi's attractions are spread across two main areas — the Sacred Centre along the Tungabhadra River and the Royal Centre to the south — plus several sites in and around Hosapete town. Most sites are open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Entry is free for most ruins; a small fee applies at a few ticketed monuments.

Virupaksha Temple
The most famous and still-active temple in Hampi, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its towering 50-metre gopuram (gateway tower) dominates the skyline. The temple dates back to the 7th century CE, with major expansions during the Vijayanagara period.
Vittala Temple & Stone Chariot
The crown jewel of Hampi's architecture. The temple complex features the iconic Stone Chariot — Hampi's most photographed monument — and the famous musical pillars that produce different notes when struck. The intricate carvings and expansive courtyard make this the highlight of any Hampi visit.
Hampi Bazaar
A long, wide street leading from Virupaksha Temple to the Krishna Temple, once a bustling market of the Vijayanagara Empire. Today it's lined with ruins of pavilions and shops, with modern souvenir stalls, cafes, and guesthouses intermixed. Perfect for an evening stroll.
Hemakuta Hill
The best spot in Hampi for sunrise and sunset photography. A short climb from Virupaksha Temple leads to a plateau dotted with small temples and shrines. The panoramic views of the Virupaksha gopuram, the boulder landscape, and the river are absolutely breathtaking.

The secular heart of Vijayanagara — palaces, courtly structures, and ceremonial platforms
Royal Enclosure & Mahanavami Dibba
The vast fortified area that housed the royal palace complex. The Mahanavami Dibba — a massive three-tiered granite platform — was used by the king to view ceremonial processions during the Navaratri festival. Intricate carvings cover the platform's sides, depicting scenes of courtly life and military parades.
Hazara Rama Temple
Known as the "Ramayana in Stone", this temple features some of the finest bas-reliefs in Hampi. Its walls are covered with friezes narrating scenes from the Ramayana epic, making it a must-visit for history and art enthusiasts. The temple was the private place of worship for the royal family.

Tungabhadra River & Coracle Rides
A quintessential Hampi experience. Ride a traditional round coracle boat on the Tungabhadra, passing by ancient temples and giant boulders. Available near the main ghat.
Tungabhadra Dam
Located in Hosapete, this massive dam across the Tungabhadra River offers boating, a beautiful garden, and evening light shows. A relaxing half-day excursion.
Matanga Hill
The highest point in Hampi's core area. A moderately challenging trek of 30–40 minutes rewards you with a 360-degree view of the entire Hampi landscape — absolutely stunning at sunrise.
Narasimha & Badavi Linga
Two massive monoliths near the Royal Centre. The Lakshmi Narasimha statue (6.7m tall) is the largest monolith statue in Hampi, while the Badavi Linga is a 3m tall Shiva linga.
Queen's Bath & Stepwells
An intriguing structure in the Royal Centre — a sunken bathing chamber with arched verandahs and a sophisticated water system. One of several hydraulic engineering marvels.
